TN-1X

TN-1X network element (NE) is Nortel Networks’ first generation of the SDH optical multiplexer. The NE provides two slots for STM-1 short haul or long haul optical aggregate cards and up to four tributary units with protections.

The TN-1X NE is configurable as a hub, add-drop multiplexer (ADM), terminal multiplexer or regenerator.

The TN-1X Multiplexer supports several types of payload connections with different degrees of protections, all connection types are available for VC-4, VC-3 or VC-12 payload channels.

The upper section of subrack houses the plug-in units with 14 slots and the lower section of the subrack is the Station Interface Area (SIA) which houses the Interface Module with 16 slots.

The TN-1X can synchronize to an external STM-1 or ESI signal traceable to a primary reference clock (PRC) or to the internal oscillator.

The TN-1X can be monitored and configured by accessing the User Interface (UI) of the application software. The UI can be accessed either:

  • Locally by a Craft Access Terminal (CAT) connected directly to the NE
  • Remotely via the TN-MS Element Controller (EC-1)
